an egg on a plant this is called the egg stage. Next thr tuny caterpillar inside chews its way out. Then it eats its own egg shell. The caterpillar is STARVING, so it eats lots of food like leaves. This is called the larva stage. The caterpillar finds a strong branch where it will turn into a butterfly.
